Where is Cartes developed?

Originally in Rennes, Brittany, with the idea that we must stop being dependent on foreign interests for our basic services, and maps of our everyday life are part of it. In return, we depend on and contribute to international commons: OpenStreetMap, Wikimedia, Panoramax, etc.

The development scope of Cartes.app was therefore French, with an initial priority for the western part of mainland France and then France in general. Since you're reading this in english, this means we've gone further ;)

Who develops Cartes?

The main developer is Maël Thomas-Quillévéré. Many other active contributors continuously improve the project on Codeberg: Étienne, Philippe, etc.

Who owns the domain name cartes.app and the intellectual property of the project?

The French company named Menoz. Legal notices can be consulted on the official business directory at this address and are not reproduced here in accordance with the "tell us once" principle.

Where is Cartes hosted?

The website and server (tiles, public transport, cycling, etc.) are hosted by Scaleway in 🇫🇷 France. Scaleway gave us repeted free startup grants to cover server costs 🙏.

How to access Cartes.app

Cartes.app is a web-based service that you can access directly through your browser. For now, there are no plans to release a mobile app, as developing one would require significant effort, ongoing maintenance, and compliance with the many requirements imposed by app stores. (More information in this issue).
